A 'Short' Marathon

Hi! We're taking on a 'Short' marathon Kiltwalk to raise funds for a charity close to our hearts, Parathyroid UK, who support my Uncle Chris Short/my mum's brother. He has a rare auto immune disease called 'Hypoparathyroidism' and PARATHYROID UK are supporting him. Chris has battled with hypopara for over 25 years, and with the help and support from Parathyroid UK, the future is looking a lot brighter. Parathyroid UK helped secure a life saving drug called Natpar (a synthetic PTH) from America, which isn't licenced in the UK. The impact this has had is incredible - it really has been the miracle drug it promised to be. Parathyroid UK is a small charity and because of this, funding is incredibly important to ensure they can continue with their amazing work supporting patients and educating doctors and consultants. Heidi will be walking 26 miles and Joshua and Daniel are planning to walk at least 13 miles to Chris' house in Cumbernauld, but are hoping to manage more. Every penny we raise will be topped up by 50% thanks to the generosity of Sir Tom Hunter and The Hunter Foundation. Any donation you can spare will mean the world to us and Parathyroid UK. Thank you so much! Parathyroid glands are four small glands which lie behind the butterfly-shaped thyroid gland in your neck. These glands produce parathyroid hormone (PTH), which closely regulates calcium levels. This is important because calcium is essential for functioning of nerves, muscles, bones, kidneys, eyes and heart. Calcium is in every cell and it is vital to life.
